Amsterdam agencies to share new home
WPP is investing in a landmark building in Amsterdam as a new base for its operating companies in the city. The agencies will move into a redevelopment of the well-known Rivierstaete building located in the centre of the city on the banks of the Amstel River. WPP has agreed a long-term lease with a targeted occupation date of mid 2018. The new office will bring together some 30 companies and approximately 1,500 people in 19,000 square metres of space. Sir Martin Sorrell, CEO of WPP, said: “Our strategic priority is ‘horizontality’ – encouraging the seamless collaboration between our agencies and disciplines that our clients increasingly demand and value. The new building in Amsterdam will allow our companies to work more closely and more effectively together, and our people will have the benefit of an outstanding working environment tailored to the needs of modern advertising and marketing services businesses. This is a clear statement to the market of our commitment to the Netherlands and the strength of our businesses there.”
David Patton named President of Y&R
Y&R Global CEO, David Sable, has announced the appointment of David Patton as the new Global President of Y&R, charging him with operational leadership across the regions. Patton will join the agency in January 2017, and will be based in London. He comes to Y&R from Grey Group, where he has served as the President and CEO of Grey EMEA for the past six years, and the CEO of Grey UK for two years before that. “The Y&R brand is iconic in the industry, and it has continued to build on its legacy, becoming one of the top-ranking creative networks in the world and achieving this standard of excellence with offices from all around the network. I look forward to working closely with David and the regional leaders,” said Patton.
Tim Castree succeeds Charles Courtier as Global CEO of MEC
GroupM has announced a leadership transition at MEC. After nearly 20 years at WPP and 14 years leading MEC, Charles Courtier is stepping down from the role of Global CEO to focus on interests outside the company. Succeeding him will be Tim Castree who will lead MEC’s 5,000 employees, who between them manage more than $25 billion in annual advertising investment for blue-chip clients in 93 countries. Courtier will continue as MEC’s CEO through a transition period and step down at the end of the year, but continue with WPP until June 2017. Castree will assume his new role in January 2017. “I am immensely proud of what we’ve achieved at MEC and honoured to have worked with such unique people at such a genuinely special agency. However, it is the right time for me to move on and start a second life,” said Courtier.
